I used to live in an apartment complex that allowed you to keep your own grill as long as it wasn’t on your patio and boy do I miss those days! We used to have all of our friends over every Friday for “grill night” and games. We would make all kinds of things! Steak, chicken, burgers, and even kabobs! Sometimes one of my friends would bring his own frozen turkey burger patties. I thought that was the grossest thing ever! Of course back then I was still eating beef like it was going out of style, but still, frozen?!
Fast forward about 4 years and now I cook with a lot less ground beef. I still make the occasional juicy red meat burger, but we usually go out to restaurants for those. At home I like to go crazy and make turkey or chicken burgers these days because they’re healthy and if they’re made right they are still juicy and delicious!
It’s all about the quality of your meat as well as the ingredients in the patty. The method of cooking doesn’t matter as long as you’re watching closely as it cooks. I like to use my George Foreman grill since we no longer have a grill to cook on (compliments of our current apartment complex). These can be pan seared, broiled, or grilled! Top them with some cheese or leave them dairy free if that’s what you like.
This burger really is one of my favorites to make because it’s just so hearty even though it’s a lean meat. It’s packed full of veggies and has the added protein of an egg to seal it all together. It’s just exploding with flavor that you can play with to your liking. If you like it a little more spicy, add some chili powder! If you want a sweeter burger, try adding just a touch of crushed pineapple or a dry bbq rub in the mix! The possibilities are endless! The point I’m trying to get across is, don’t just put a slab of meat on a bun anymore! Make it a personalized loaf of meat that’s really a burger! The results are amazing and your taste buds will thank you for it.
Prep Time: 15 mins // Cook Time: 12 mins // Makes 4 patties
- 1lb Ground Turkey
- ½ Red Bell Pepper
- ¼ Red Onion
- 1 Celery Stalk
- 1 Carrot
- 1 Jalapeno
- 1 Egg
- ½ C. Panko
- 1 tsp. each: Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder
- 2 tsp. Worcheshire Sauce
- Chop all the veggies chunky and put in a food processor. Pulse about 10 times or until it’s all chopped pretty small.
- Dump everything in a bowl and mix.
- Form into balls and then patties.
- TIP! When forming your burger patties (no matter the meat) always make the middle thinner than the outsides. This will make it more even and flat as it cooks rather than bubbling up in the middle and not cooking evenly.
- Cook via your favorite method or whatever is available to you! Be conscious of the meat you’re using. Turkey needs to be cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165 degrees throughout.
- Enjoy on a bun, in a lettuce wrap or just by itself!
